Raybow USA in Brevard has been an Oakwood Chemical customer since 2008. Raybow chemists started collecting Oakwood Periodic Table magnets when they first became available around 2015. After he was hired by Raybow in 2021, Gary Richoux, PhD, became a magnet fan.

“I’ve been collecting these magnets over the five and a half years I’ve been here, along with finding quite a few that were already around the building. I also specifically requested a few from Oakwood when placing orders to help complete the set,” Richoux explained.

When word got to Oakwood that Raybow only needed three elements (115, 116, and 118) to complete an entire periodic table, Olivia Veprek, Business Development Representative, rode to the rescue. Literally. She hand-delivered the magnets to Richoux before meeting with Raybow Group Leaders about upcoming purchase needs.

The completed periodic table is displayed on the ends of a pair of lab hoods, and it’s visible from the office area. “It’s a fun conversation piece when we have visitors,” offered Richoux.

For those unfamiliar with the series, each Oakwood magnet features a chemical element with an image that references pop-culture and history. Special collections are created as limited editions; some are available only at specific conferences or trade shows.

“The magnets are a pretty engaging challenge for chemists because some of the connections are very loosely related, making it a bit of a brain teaser to figure out the association,” Richoux added.
